Gabby Agbonlahor blasts Leeds man for a lack of pace despite impressive outing

Robin Koch was probably one of our better players on Sunday afternoon as Leeds United eventually suffered a 2-0 loss to Manchester United at Elland Road – but Gabby Agbonlahor has blasted the German for a lack of speed in defence.

Koch, 26, is enjoying his best season at Leeds since joining the club from Freiburg in the summer of 2020, for a fee of £13m. A number of injuries hindered the star in his first two seasons, playing 38 games over the course of two years.

This season, he has rid himself of those injury issues – playing 23 times already. He has established himself as first pick on the right side of our two centre-backs, neatly partnering signing Max Wober of late. Koch played well on Saturday.

WhoScored report that Koch won more aerials than any of his teammates with four, as well as producing six clearances – again, top of the class. The report gave him a rating of 6.56, our third best behind Luke Ayling and Cree Summerville.

But Agbonlahor, known for his online rivalry with Danny Mills and his tricky relationship with Leeds fans, criticised Koch on social media. He teased Koch for his seemingly apparent lack of pace, saying snails are quicker than the Leeds man.

Koch has been one of our most-consistent men. In terms of our best players this term, Koch is up there. Willy Gnonto, Tyler Adams, Illan Meslier, Rodrigo – Koch should be among those names. His consistency has been very underrated.

Keeping him fit is key if Leeds are to avoid the drop this season. Our perilous place in the table is of course a worry, but Leeds fans and the club will know we have the quality to get ourselves out of it. Keeping Koch available will really help.
