Larry Nance Jr has told the Leeds That podcast that he expected Leeds United attacker Willy Gnonto to be the “first one out the door” at Elland Road this summer – and is surprised he has remained at Leeds.
Gnonto, 19, is back in the Leeds side after refusing to play for the club for three games – returning in the 4-3 win over Ipswich, in which he scored his only goal of 2023-24. He’s been linked with the exit door.
Serie A clubs, German sides including Freiburg but most of all – Jack Harrison’s Everton – wanted to sign Gnonto in the last few weeks. But Leeds told him he would be staying. That has proved to be the case.
Gnonto is off on Italy duty and came off the bench during last night’s 2-1 win over Ukraine. He will travel back to Yorkshire and is likely to start on Sunday when Daniel Farke names his team to take on Millwall.
New Orleans Pelicans star Nance Jr, who is one of the investors in The 49ers’ takeover of Leeds, spoke to Leeds That and he said he is surprised that Gnonto has remained at Leeds, over the last few weeks.
“Truth be told, I thought more would go. For sure, I thought Gnonto was gone. I thought he would have been the first one out of the door. An Italy international at 19 is nothing to scoff at,” Nance Jr claimed.

Gnonto has the power to push Leeds towards promotion and an instant return to the Premier League. If, he is all in. If, he is willing to give his all as he did at times in the Premier League. It is in his best interests.
