Feyenoord are concerned that Leeds United will appoint a new manager for the rest of the season before attempting to trigger a clause to land Arne Slot in the summer, according to a report from the Mirror (12/2; page 79).
Leeds are continuing their pursuit of Jesse Marsch’s successor. And it now appears that there is a chance that Marsch could find his next job before Leeds replace him. The Athletic reports that the American is a contender for the Southampton gig.
It appears that the Whites may be closing in on a target. Once again, The Athletic reported that Alfred Schreuder is a serious contender for the role. And talks with the former Ajax boss are imminent.
Feyenoord still worried about Leeds interest in Slot
Intriguingly, The Athletic’s report noted that Schreuder coming in would allow Leeds to make an appointment until the end of the season. That would suggest that the Whites may roll the dice until the summer.
And that is something Feyenoord are seemingly concerned about. Leeds have shown interest in Slot. However, the Eredivisie leaders have blocked the Whites’ attempt to appoint him in the last few days, according to the Mirror.
But they may be powerless to stop him leaving in the summer. The Mirror notes that Slot has a clause in his contract which will allow him to walk away at the end of the season if a Premier League club comes calling.
And the report suggests that Feyenoord are growing concerned that Leeds may attempt to do exactly that.
Of course, the one major issue with Leeds’ possible plan is that there are no guarantees of us staying in the Premier League. Right now, many fans will feel that relegation is looking to be on the cards.
Unless something changes quickly, there is a chance that the bottom four get somewhat cut adrift. And Everton fans will be pretty optimistic with Sean Dyche at the helm.
Try as they may, Leeds cannot argue that their manager hunt has gone to plan. So they better hope – much like the move for Willy Gnonto – they luck out on an inspired choice for the time-being.
Whether we go for Slot in the summer or not, here’s hoping we have the opportunity to trigger the clause in his contract.
