Leeds United boss Daniel Farke wants to keep Joe Gelhardt despite speculation linking the forward with a move away from Elland Road in the final days of the summer transfer window.
That is according to a report from Leeds Live, which notes that the 21-year-old has been linked with a loan move elsewhere in the Championship.
Some Leeds fans may have expected Joe Gelhardt to leave temporarily before the deadline passes. The Whites, as things stand, go into the main part of the Championship season with plenty of depth in attack. And with that, it seemed that the youngster may struggle for opportunities.
Gelhardt started against Salford City in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday. It was not the easiest game for the forward, with Neil Redfearn suggesting that Gelhardt had an off night.
Farke wants to keep Gelhardt at Leeds amid loan exit links
Leeds Live suggests that Gelhardt has been linked with a loan move before the deadline. But it appears that Daniel Farke has no intention of letting Gelhardt leave the club.
The report suggests that Leeds want to keep the former Wigan starlet. And thus, it seems that he is set to stick around.
It is good to hear that Farke wants Gelhardt to stay. His talent is absolutely undeniable. But it has just not quite clicked for him over the last couple of years.
If Farke is the man to get the best out of Gelhardt, Leeds will have another special attacking talent on their hands.
But it is a gamble to not let him leave on loan. It is hard to see him playing regularly – particularly if he does not have the chance to impress in the League Cup anymore.
Hopefully Leeds are vindicated for looking to keep Gelhardt, and he plays an important role as we look to challenge for promotion.
