Fabrizio Romano confirms Fulham player could finally leave after long-term Leeds United interest

Leeds United will be aiming to explore various different markets this summer, including signing players in the final 12 months of their contracts.

That was an area that Leeds United exploited well in the summer of 2024, with each of Ao Tanaka, Largie Ramazani, and Jayden Bogle in the final year of their deals and thus able to be signed below market value.

This summer, Daniel Farke’s side need to be smart with how they operate in the market once again. Leeds will have plenty to spend but they also need to spread it across numerous different positions in the squad. However, having difference-makers at both ends of the pitch is paramount.

That means having a competent and reliable goalkeeper, but also match-winners at the top of the pitch. A clinical striker needs to be surrounded by creativity and athleticism. A versatile attacking midfielder was on the club’s priority list following Georginio Rutter’s summer departure, but it is still lacking this summer.

Long-term Leeds target Harry Wilson’s future is unclear

Leeds made Ramazani and Manor Solomon their main forward signings to help ease the creative burden on other players. However, it is certain to be on the agenda again in the upcoming transfer window. One player they have looked at countless times in recent seasons is Fulham’s Harry Wilson.

Since joining the Cottagers from Liverpool in 2021, the Welsh international has consistently shown he is capable of the extraordinary, becoming one of the Championship’s standout creative players in his best seasons, although opportunities have been harder to come by in the top flight.

A whole host of players have been linked to Leeds already but Wilson has not been one yet this summer. He had previously been linked with the club in 2018 (per The Yorkshire Post) but a move to Elland Road did not materialise and he instead joined Derby County, with Leeds picking up Jack Harrison on loan instead.

Again, in 2020, Leeds wanted Wilson after promotion under Marcelo Bielsa (per talkSPORT). Sources have also revealed he was under consideration last summer after Rutter’s departure. However, 2025 could potentially be the summer that sees Wilson depart for a fresh challenge.

Per Fabrizio Romano, Wilson has had a one-year extension triggered in his Fulham contract. However, he will either sign a new deal or be sold. There is no mention of Leeds yet but with Solomon’s loan ending and a lack of creativity in the forward line, Leeds’ interest could pique once more in the long-term target.

Wilson has called Leeds ‘dangerous’ before and making Leeds’ attacking line more dangerous this summer is now a priority for the 49ers, Farke, and co. — which could potentially include Wilson.

Harry Wilson’s goal and assist record

Wilson’s attacking intelligence is top drawer, and he excels at finding pockets of space between the lines and in the half-spaces, making him a constant threat in forward play at this level. His vision and ability to pick out key passes made him the creative heartbeat of the side in 2021/22.

The 28-year-old would not cost much given his contract situation, if a new deal cannot be agreed with Fulham. He would add plenty to this Leeds team, with his ability to strike from distance with accuracy and power, adding a dynamic element to Leeds’ attack that very few of their forward line possess.

Wilson’s ability to whip in dangerous crosses and corners would be another weapon in Farke’s attacking arsenal. Set-pieces are where he truly makes a difference, and he’s a player who can turn a game with a moment of magic from a free-kick.

Wilson can win matches through moments of brilliance, whilst he could operate as either a right-sided winger or attacking midfielder for Leeds. They have very few left-footed forwards like him in their ranks as well, making him a player who ought to be on their radar once again in 2025, even just as a squad option.
