Georginio Rutter became Leeds United’s eighth permanent sale of the summer on Monday night but it was another of those eight who was picked in a Team of the Week after his debut on Sunday.

Rutter, 22, joined Brighton for a fee of £40m on Monday in a move that sees Leeds take their overall cash raised from player sales this summer to a whopping £120m after Archie Gray also left the club for £40m.

Plenty of competitive debuts were made over the weekend as top-tier football returned. Gray made his debut for Spurs last night and Leeds fans took to social media to discuss Gray’s cameo against Leicester.

Elsewhere, Crysencio Summerville also came off the bench for Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham in a 2-1 home defeat to Aston Villa. Glen Kamara was labelled “very intelligent” after starring for Rennes against Lyon.

Charlie Cresswell in Ligue 1 Team of the Week after Leeds exit

Cresswell, 22, left Leeds in the summer after managing just seven appearances for the Whites under Daniel Farke and publicly having a disagreement with the German manager regarding his game time.

His exit did not come as a surprise, but his choice of club did. He joined Ligue 1 outfit Toulouse in a deal worth £3.8m and on Sunday, the “excellent” ace made his debut in as Toulouse drew 0-0 with Nantes.

WhoScored said Cresswell won nine headers, while his teammates only managed 13. An incredible stat, as Cresswell helped Toulouse keep a clean sheet and was picked in WhoScored’s Ligue 1 Team of the Week.

Should Leeds regret selling Cresswell earlier this summer?

Unfortunately for Cresswell, the signing of Joe Rodon meant that England U21 star Cresswell was never going to start. Leeds also had left-footed options in Liam Cooper and Pascal Struijk on the other side.

So, Cresswell’s game time was always going to be limited at Elland Road. But perhaps, Farke should have made more of an effort to play him and get him game time, judging by his performance for Toulouse.

Should Leeds regret selling Cresswell? Probably not, he needed the move to further his career but the more he impresses in France’s top tier, the more Leeds fans will feel the sale was a bad decision.
