It’s been a whirlwind spell for Alfonso Pedraza. Just a couple of years on from his struggling loan spell at Leeds United, the Spaniard enjoyed arguably the night of his career on Thursday.

The 22-year-old managed 14 appearances in Leeds push for promotion back in 2017. Joining the club on loan from Villarreal, he scored one goal against Birmingham City.

He returned to Villarreal after struggling in England, and was loaned out to Deportivo. But Pedraza starred for the La Liga side, scoring four goals and creating six more in 2017-18.

Now, he is finally starting to show the kind of form Leeds wanted. Indeed, Pedraza scored the winner as Villarreal beat Sporting Lisbon on Thursday night. Below, is Pedraza’s goal.

It is a far cry from the winger that failed to adapt to the rigours of Championship football.

Pedraza was not the only former Leeds player in action on Thursday night in the Europa League. Former Whites striker Marcus Antonsson started for Malmo against Chelsea, in a 2-1 defeat in Sweden.
