It is a significant piece of business for Leeds and one that underlines just how highly the Welsh international is valued behind the scenes. He told Sky Sports:
“It’s rare as a club that you are able to break your own news. I’ll do that right now, I can proudly announce that we have signed Ethan Ampadu to a new four-year contract. The ink is dry and it’s done.
That was important for us to have our captain locked up and signed up because he has been such a leader on and off the pitch.
No doubt, we want to keep the core together, we have such a good group, the longer they stay together and coalesce together, the better for the whole club.”
Farke’s first signing has become one of his most important players
Ampadu arrived from Chelsea in the summer of 2023 as Daniel Farke’s first permanent signing at Leeds. Three years later, he has developed into one of the most influential figures at the club.
The 25-year-old has become captain, a guaranteed starter and a player trusted in multiple positions. Whether deployed in midfield or defence, Ampadu has consistently been one of the first names on Farke’s teamsheet.

Marathe’s comments reveal Leeds’ transfer strategy

I would hope so [adding more quality]. We’re different to last year, new entrants into the Premier League, we had to bring in a lot of players.
This year the bar is higher, there is a lot of quality players getting minutes and some not getting enough minutes, we need to improve the squad and it requires an extra level for players to come in and get regular minutes.”
