Ethan Ampadu has told The 72 that he feels his move to Leeds United came at the “perfect” time in his career after four successive seasons out on loan away from Chelsea – before joining us in the summer.

In most instances, Ampadu is still only a young player having only just turned 23 in September. But he is a player with 45 Wales caps to his name already, and 133 club outings in England, Germany and Italy.

Ampadu has been superb for Leeds. Joining the club for a fee of £7m, Ampadu has played every single minute for us in all 11 games so far. It has seen Ilia Gruev continue to warm the bench after his arrival.

Already, Ampady is a key player for us and one of the first names on the team sheet. The midfielder told The 72 he has joined a fantastic club in Leeds – and feels the move to Elland Road was perfect for him.

“Definitely [feels good to join Leeds permanently]. I’ll always be grateful for loan opportunities. I learnt a lot but this was the perfect time for me to move somewhere, settle in. I obviously chose a great club.”

What a signing he has been. Up there with some of the best in the division, during the summer. Yes, a fee of £7m – potentially rising to £10m – is somewhat expensive. But Leeds sold Tyler Adams for £23m.

That gave Leeds a player who is easily as good as Adams, and have more than double the outlay spent on Adams to play with after Ampadu arrived. Good business from Leeds and Daniel Farke to get him in.
