Weston McKennie has told Sky Sports that he has “heard” the atmosphere at Elland Road is “amazing” and explained how the passion is an “energy booster” for him – after completing a loan-to-buy move from Juventus to Leeds United.

McKennie, 24, has joined Leeds despite being a regular for Juventus – clocking up 96 appearances at Elland Road since joining Juventus in 2020. A loan that was made permanent in the summer of 2021. Leeds have signed him on loan.

A temporary deal that will give the Whites the chance to sign him permanently for a fee of £35million in the summer. Leeds fans have been waiting for an announcement all day, after a number of sightings of McKennie at Elland Road.

At 8pm, Leeds confirmed the news and he has since given an interview to Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton. The USA ace says he has “heard” that the atmosphere and fans are amazing. That support gives him adrenaline on the pitch.

“I’ve heard the support and the atmosphere is amazing and that’s like an adrenaline rush for me. To come out and see fans going crazy is like a 10x energy booster for me. Stadium is dope, it’s really nice, I’ve seen pictures, it’s top level.”

A brilliant signing for Leeds. A player with supreme experience but still only 24. Many at Juventus were of the belief that the midfielder is the kind of player that was almost, too intense for Juventus’ laid-back style. But, ideal for Leeds.

Leeds have midfield additions, with Adam Forshaw picking up a number of injuries already this term. Marc Roca’s form has been up and down. Archie Gray and Darko Gyabi are rookies. Sam Greenwood is a 10. Leeds needed to sign him.
