During Marcelo Bielsa’s reign, Leeds United fans called out for the club to sign a striker in order to bring in competition for Patrick Bamford – and one of the club’s targets in that period is now on fire.
Leeds lacked the fire power with Bamford struggling to replicate his 2020-21 form, due to injury and a lack of form. It played a big part in the club being relegated, with Rodrigo the only other senior option.
Leeds were linked with a number of strikers from that period. In the summer of 2021, after one season back in the big time, Tutto Mercato Web claim Leeds made a bid for Argentine striker Adolfo Gaich.
The season prior, Gaich had joined CSKA Moscow. He has since gone on loan four times away from the Russian club, only playing 37 times for them since his move to Russia in 2020. He is now in Turkey.
On loan at SuperLig side Caykur Rizespor, alongside Jonjo Shelvey. Another player linked with Leeds, recently. He is finally starting to show the potential that Bielsa must have seen in his fellow countryman.

The one-time Argentina international has been on fire in December, scoring eight goals in his last four games for Rizespor. Including a hat-trick in the Cup, and two consecutive braces in the Turkish League.
Leeds could really do with him, now. While Georginio Rutter and Joel Piroe continue to do the business in attack, Leeds lack the strength in depth. Bamford is not the striker he once was, in a Leeds shirt.
Joe Gelhardt and Mateo Joseph probably need a loan. Blackburn have made a loan bid for the former. Whether there is any residing interest in Gaich is unlikely, but he is certainly a striker in excellent form.
