Junior Firpo has described Leeds United defender Liam Cooper as the “perfect captain” and praised the way he looks after his teammates – prompting Michael Bridges to react by teasing the skipper.
Firpo, 27, is back in action and available for selection. It comes after an LCL injury, followed by another hamstring injury – which kept him out of pre-season and up until the Leicester match, when he returned.
An unused sub that day, but he came on after 54 minutes against Plymouth. Firpo is now in line to start on Friday night with Byram still recovering from his own hamstring issue, when Leeds face Rotherham.
Speaking about Cooper on the latest Leeds United podcast, Firpo described the skipper as the perfect captain – praising how he looks after the players. Bridges responded, teasing the size of Cooper’s nose.
“He’s mature. He cares, he really cares [about his players]. I think he is the perfect captain. Honestly, he is the perfect captain in terms of everything,” Firpo said, with Cooper approaching 10 years at Leeds.
“Bridges quickly responded to Firpo’s praise, on the latest Leeds United podcast ahead of Friday’s clash: “We’ll edit that bit out, we can’t have Coops hearing that. His head will grow as big as his nose.”

Firpo spoke brilliantly in this podcast. His praise of Cooper, his comments on his future, his honesty, will surely make Leeds fans think differently about the defender. Many are frustrated over his form at Leeds.
But he has struggled with injuries and he deserves a bit of faith in him. Now fit, in the Championship, with Farke in the dugout, Firpo has the platform to thrive. Hopefully, he can remain injury free this term.
