Early predicted Leeds XI to face Aston Villa: Three changes, 31-year-old returns to start

The international break is finally coming to a close and Leeds United are preparing to play host to Aston Villa on Sunday – the club’s first Premier League outing in a month. Here is our early predicted Leeds XI to take on Villa.

The Whites last took to the field against Brentford, a 5-2 defeat back on September 3. Since then, Leeds have seen two games cancelled because of Her Majesty the Queen’s passing. Then, the international break kicked in.

Leeds have been forced to watch other clubs continue to play. We are now about to enter October, and Leeds have only played six league games. But that changes on Sunday, as Leeds take on Steven Gerrard’s struggling Aston Villa.

There will be changes. Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper, Patrick Bamford, Willy Gnonto and Junior Firpo all played for the Under-21 side against Southampton before the break – a 6-2 win. England international Bamford got a hat-trick.

He will surely be given the nod to lead the line. Joe Gelhardt is yet to replicate the form that was so crucial in keeping Leeds in the Premier League last season. Italy international Gnonto is yet to make his senior debut for the Whites.

So, Bamford in for Gelhardt. Jesse Marsch has a decision to make on both sides of his defence. Firpo is back, but does he replace the in-form Pascal Struijk? Probably not. At right-back, Marsch has to pick between three players.

Cody Drameh started last time out, Luke Ayling coming off the bench. Ayling impressed, but Rasmus Kristensen is fit again after starring for Denmark against France. That might just convince Marsch to hand the Dane a start on Sunday.

At centre-back, Diego Llorente was poor against Brentford. With captain Cooper back, he will surely be given the nod over Llorente alongside Robin Koch. In come Cooper, Bamford and Kristensen, for Llorente, Gelhardt and Drameh.
