Dominic Matteo has told Leeds United’s preview show that Crysencio Summerville has “all the tools” needed to be a top player, and he is improving “week in, week out” – after scoring on Wednesday night.

Summerville, 21, starred last time out. He got the winner against QPR as Leeds secured a fourth league win and climbed into the top six. It was only his second of the season, and sixth goal at senior level.

It comes after the Netherlands U21 man remained at Elland Road in the summer despite interest from newly-promoted Premier League side Burnley. Fabrizio Romano claims the Clarets tabled a £20m bid.

But instead, he chose to remain and Summerville has made himself a key player as Leeds look to gain an instant return to the Premier League. Matteo was full of praise for the £1.3m signing from Feyenoord.

“He started the game so brightly. I said after a couple of minutes, wow he’s at it. You can tell when a player is at it,” Matteo said when discussing Summerville, ahead of Saturday’s clash against Bristol City.

“He has got a lot of the tools a top player needs, it’s just working on them on a daily basis and when you do, the rewards come. I can definitely see signs that he is improving, week in, week out,” Matteo added.

Matteo: Summerville has all the tools to be a top player for Leeds

Matteo has summed up Summerville to perfection. Creative, speed, flair, skills and the ability to score. But he needs to do it consistently, conjuring up the ability to have an impact in every single match.

That still evades Summerville. He can produce magic, but it needs to be done a whole lot more regularly. Hopefully, he shines on Saturday, ending this group of matches on a high before the international break.
