Dom Matteo has told a video published on Leeds United’s official Twitter account that from what he has heard, Javi Gracia was “very thorough” when applying for the Leeds job – ahead of his first game as boss against Southampton.
Gracia, 52, was finally granted a work permit following his initial appointment on Tuesday. It came 15 days after the club decided to sack Jesse Marsch, with the Whites last winning a Premier League match back on November 5th.
Leeds play host to Southampton on Saturday, a crucial game after the Saints beat Chelsea last time out. Leeds now sit in 19th place in the Premier League and there is work to do to get us out of the mire. Gracia is the club’s choice.
Elland Road icon Matteo gave his verdict on the appointment of Gracia and believes Leeds have got a boss that he is a manager with huge experience. He says he has heard that he worked hard to be given the opportunity as boss.
“It’s a new face, a new voice, an experienced manager. Obviously from what we hear, he was very thorough, he knew exactly what Leeds had been up to, how we had been playing. He thinks he can make a difference here.
“That’s what he’s got to do. The Leeds fans will be behind him 1million percent. They’ll back him, they always do. But Start well against Southampton, but it is so important for him and the team. He has to hit the ground running.”

Can Gracia be a success? The only way Leeds fans will applaud the Spaniard will be if he can keep the club in the Premier League. But he needs to get this side more confident in front of goal and re-install a defensive solidity.
A win for Leeds can take us as high as 16th in the table if other results go our way. Everton play host to Aston Villa, West Ham are at home to Nottingham Forest. Bournemouth play host to League champions Manchester City.
