Diego Llorente has posted on Instagram after playing for the last time during his AS Roma loan spell and hinted at a possible permanent move to the Serie A club from Leeds United this summer – telling fans “the best is yet to come”.
Llorente, 29, joined Roma on loan in January with a permanent option. Struggling for game time, injuries worked their way in the favour of the Spaniard. He finished with 12 Roma matches. He played in the Europa League final.
There have been numerous reports saying that Llorente could join Roma permanently. But, that Roma will not pay the £18m clause included in his loan deal. Middle ground will need to be found if he is to join Roma this summer.
The Athletic report that Leeds will struggle to sell Llorente, and will have to work hard to do so – which is their aim. Of course, Llorente only signed a new deal at Elland Road a month before going to Roma. He’s now dropped a hint.
His post is translated: “Great teams show character in challenging times. Falling down, getting up. This is football. We ended with an important victory in front of our fans. Now time to rest, look forward. The Best Is Yet To Come.”

Leeds have got to get rid of Llorente. Joining the club as a player that had broken into Real Madrid’s first team and boasted Spain caps, he is likely to be on a big wage – especially after signing a new deal. Something we can’t afford.
Not in the Championship, anyway. Leeds have got to admit that due to relegation, the club will need to reduce the asking price for Llorente given the need to cash in. That will certainly help Leeds and Roma come to an agreement.
If not Roma, perhaps a return to Spanish football. While playing for Roma, if not injured, he has shown that he still has what it takes to impress at top-tier level. His injuries, though, are a concern. Clearly, Llorente is keen on Roma.
