Diego Llorente has hinted to DAZN – as per Roma Press – that he could leave Leeds United on a permanent basis this summer, in his post-match comments after finally earning his first Serie A start for Roma on Sunday evening.
Llorente, 29, left Leeds after two and a half years at Elland Road – in which he clocked up just 59 outings for the Whites – to join Roma until the summer. The deal includes a permanent £18m option, to sign Llorente this summer.
Of course, Llorente signed a new deal with Leeds before he moved on loan to Roma. Clearly, a move from Leeds that was to protect an asset. But, Llorente is not a starting player and that is why Leeds sanctioned a loan to Roma.
Speaking after his first start for the Italian club on Sunday in Serie A – a 3-0 win over Sampdoria – Llorente hinted at a permanent exit. He did so, by saying the loan is a big opportunity for his career down the line, not just right now.
“Mourinho? I am very happy with his compliments. When he called me I immediately came here because it could be a great opportunity for my career. I’m very happy to be here. I am working very hard to be important for this team.”

If Roma are willing to sign Llorente for £18m then it is incredible business by Leeds. It is a move that suits all of those involved in a potential deal. But, the chances of Roma spending that kind of figure on Llorente is unlikely.
Roma, like many other Serie A sides, are not flush with cash. Why would they spend such a fee on a defender that turns 30 in the summer – and is not a starting player when everyone is available? A compromise is needed.
