‘Diabolical’: Simon Jordan thinks 29-year-old Leeds man has been terrible all season

Simon Jordan has labelled the performances of Patrick Bamford this season as ‘diabolical’ after Leeds United’s relegation.

Jordan was speaking on talkSPORT, where he claimed Bamford has been a major contributing factor to Leeds’ demise due to his missed chances and poor hold-up play.

Leeds were officially relegated from the Premier League on Sunday following a 4-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, a game in which Bamford was not involved in.

Bamford was once again absent due to a hamstring injury he sustained seven days earlier in the 3-1 loss to West Ham United.

Injuries have plagued Bamford in the last two seasons and he has looked a shadow of the player he was when he fired in 17 goals during the 2020/21 campaign.

Jordan blasts ‘diabolical’ Bamford

Ultimately, Bamford’s missed chances have cost Leeds a host of points this season which could’ve made all the difference.

To name just a few, his failures from the spot against both Arsenal and Newcastle United, as well as the last minute sitter in the draw with Leicester City.

Jordan believes there are a number of reasons behind Leeds’ relegation, with Bamford’s performances at the top of the list.

He said: “They are [shocking] but if you look at Leeds’ decision making, they’ve never replaced Kalvin Phillips, they never replaced an offensive option in Raphinha.

“Patrick Bamford at times this season, I thought was diabolical. Poor, not just penalty misses but in games where he didn’t hold the line up, he didn’t do his job. I don’t know whether new contracts have affected his outcome because he got a new contract.

“He was back to the Patrick Bamford centre-forward that went around Palace and other football clubs because he couldn’t get a proper gig, rather than the Patrick Bamford, a couple of years ago, that was scoring a lot of goals for them.”

Bamford is no longer good, or reliable enough to lead the line for Leeds based on his fitness issues in the last couple of years.

His missed chances cannot be excused, but it is also on the club that he is still so heavily relied on.

To not bring in a proper replacement for Bamford during the entire of Leeds’ three-year stay in the Premier League is nothing short of footballing suicide from the board.
