David Seaman has told his Seaman Says podcast that he wishes Kalvin Phillips was still at Leeds United as he continues to struggle at Manchester City – joking that he would be too expensive for Leeds, now.

Phillips, 27, continues to struggle for game time at The Etihad with Pep Guardiola continually picking other players. On Sunday, even without Rodri, Guardiola used Bernardo Silva in a deeper midfield role.

The 28-time England star remained an unused sub on the night, as Arsenal edged out Guardiola’s men to win 1-0. Just 26 appearances have been afforded to Phillips since he moved to Manchester City.

Discussing Phillips, most notably on Sunday during the clash between two of Seaman’s former sides – the legendary goalkeeper, who was in our academy, says he wishes Phillips was still at Elland Road.

“How does Kalvin Phillips feel? Rodri has been out for three games and he’s still not a regular. There were a lot of rumours of him leaving. He could be [one who leaves in January] because you need to play.

“He’s been at City for a few years and his game tally is not massive. I wish he still was [a Leeds player] but I don’t know whether Leeds could afford him now,” Seaman joked, on his podcast this week.

Phillips needed to leave Elland Road and go and pursue his career. But a move to City seems to have been a bridge too far. A Premier League club, fighting to finish in Europe, is probably best for Phillips.

A Tottenham, a Newcastle, a Liverpool – a club that are a level down from City and Arsenal, who have of course, signed Declan Rice from West Ham. January cannot come soon enough for the Leeds favourite.
