Darko Gyabi has told the Yorkshire Evening Post that Stuart Dallas – and senior stars Liam Cooper and Luke Ayling – have been helping behind the scenes at Leeds United as the midfielder continues his quest to break into the team.
Gyabi, 19, has managed just three senior outings since joining Leeds from Manchester City last summer in a £5m deal. Instead, he has been a regular for the Under-21’s – having a hand in six goals during 18 league and cup games.
During the break, Gyabi has been busy. Earlier this week, he captained England’s Under-19 side to a 1-0 win over Hungary at Walsall’s Bescot Stadium. He lasted the whole game but for a few minutes, alongside Sonny Perkins.
He spoke to the YEP’s Joe Donnohue after the game, who travelled south to watch Gyabi and Perkins in action. The midfield talent shared how Dallas – who remains out injured but is close to a return – Cooper and Ayling have helped.

“One thing I’ll say about Leeds: the first-team players are all welcoming,” Gyabi said. “When I first moved, the older players like Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper, Stuart Dallas, they’ve been really helpful in speaking to me,” Gyabi said.
“When I get frustrated in training they tell you to keep going, keep working. They tell me to be ready, you never know when your chance will be. They’re always encouraging and helpful. it makes it very easy to be around them.”
Darko Gyabi says Stuart Dallas helping midfielder behind scenes at Leeds
It is nice to see Dallas is still having an impact on the Leeds squad even though he has been unable to play for the us since that leg break against Manchester City. Hopefully, there is a chance Dallas features before the summer.
But, if Leeds need a midfielder with Tyler Adams out injured between now and the end of the season – Gyabi may be the one Leeds turn to. Marc Roca and Weston McKennie are currently first choice, but Gyabi seems next in line.
