Danny Mills has told the Yorkshire Post that he thinks automatic promotion is within Leeds United’s grasp this season – picking out five Leeds stars for praise, and saying Georginio Rutter looks happy.
Leeds continued their excellent run of form last Friday with a 1-0 win over Leicester City at the King Power. With Ipswich failing to beat Rotherham last night, drawing 2-2, they sit eight points clear of us.
But perhaps, with Leicester drawing the last couple, Kieran McKenna’s side are just starting to have a little stutter. With Christmas’ busy scheduled soon to be upon us, a swing of results could easily occur.
Leeds look good at the back, hard-working in midfield, efficient and exciting in attack and working well as a team under Daniel Farke. Whether Leeds can catch the top two remains to be seen, but it is early.
Ex-Leeds defender Mills spoke to the Yorkshire Post about promotion and picked five Leeds players to praise, in the form of Georginio Rutter, Sam Byram, Joe Rodon, Crysencio Summerville and Dan James.
“There’s a long, long way to go yet in the Championship. Strength in depth, they’ve got to keep players fit, managing the way that they play. The players they’ve got – [Crysencio] Summerville’s a good player.
“Dan James at that level is a very, very good player. Sam Byram now has experience. Rodon’s played at this level before. Rutter looks happier at this level. I think they’ve got a great chance to make automatic.”

That quintet of stars have been pivotal to Leeds this season. Illan Meslier, Pascal Struijk and of course, Ethan Ampadu can be thrown onto that list as players that are almost definitely first choice in this side.
Comparing Leeds to Leicester and Ipswich, you would say Leeds and Leicester have the best squads. Ipswich are starring under impressive gaffer McKenna, but surely they lack the depth to do it all term?
