Reports emerged on Monday that Daniel Farke is yet to make a decision on whether to hand Stuart Dallas a new contract at Leeds United – but surely, Dallas has earned the chance to prove his worth.
Dallas has now gone more than 18 months without playing for Leeds. It comes after the 32-year-old suffered a broken leg against Manchester City during a tackle with Jack Grealish, back in April 2022.
So, his future hangs in the balance – considering his contract at Elland Road is set to expire at the end of the season. TeamTalk report that Farke has decided he will keep Luke Ayling and offer him another year.
But they also say that for Dallas and Cooper, the wait goes on. The German gaffer is yet to make his decision on the futures of both players. Captain Cooper is falling down the pecking order at Elland Road.
So, it might be understandable – despite his incredible leadership and that he still has an impact on the pitch – that a new deal for the defender is avoided. But with Dallas, surely, he has earned new terms.
Farke yet to make decision but surely Dallas earned Leeds deal
Dallas is a player that when he was last pulling on a Leeds shirt, was a mainstay in a Premier League side that had gained promotion under Marcelo Bielsa – and the finished in ninth place in England’s top tier.
He is a player that can play on the right and left of defence. The right and left of midfield. But he is best in the thick of it, in the middle of the park, perhaps alongside an Ethan Ampadu. He deserves a deal.
Not just because his inability to play over the last 18 months is nowhere near his fault – but because he was part of a Leeds side that gave fans their most join in almost 20 years. Farke said he is “brilliant”.
But with the German yet to make his mind up, perhaps the situation requires The 49ers to step in on this rare occasion and hand Dallas a new deal.
