Daniel Farke is hell-bent on bringing new midfielders to Leeds United before Friday’s deadline with a number of names linked – but letting Sam Greenwood go would be his first major mistake this summer.
Plenty of names have been linked with a move to Leeds. Glen Kamara has been joining for the majority of the summer, apparently. Ao Tanaka, Ilia Gruev, Kenny McLean and other names have been touted.
Like the signing of Djed Spence at right-back – which means Cody Drameh is likely to go – midfielders may decide to leave if the club sign a new player in that position. Greenwood is attracting new interest.
The Mail’s Tom Collomosse claims on Twitter that four Championship clubs want our £3m signing – in the form of Middlesbrough, Swansea, Preston and Stoke. But surely, letting Greenwood go is a mistake.
Letting Greenwood go would be Farke’s first Leeds mistake
A player that immediately showed his quality when he came off the bench on Tuesday night. Not only did he crash a free-kick off the bar, with the score at 1-1 – but he also blasted home our first penalty.
So far, Farke has been pretty much perfect. He could do nothing about the seven players leaving the club on loan, due to the clauses inserted in contracts by Victor Orta. He has a choice with Greenwood.
The self-confessed man with the rubber stamp when it comes to transfers, he will have the ultimate say on letting Greenwood go. But he is versatile, able to play deep in midfield as a 10 or even as a striker.
Greenwood has a good connection with a batch of the U21 Leeds stars coming through and is superb from set-pieces. He can be a real weapon if given a chance. Farke cannot let Greenwood leave Leeds.
