Crysencio Summerville took the plaudits on Saturday night after he scored a winner for Leeds United against Liverpool at Anfield – but the winger reserved praise for Leeds teammate Brenden Aaronson, comparing him to Lionel Messi.

Summerville popped up to latch on to a poor touch from Patrick Bamford, to go past Virgil van Dijk and score. Just his second professional goal, but his second in two games after getting a consolation against Fulham last time out.

It saw Leeds do the unthinkable, an away win at Anfield. Just what the doctor ordered, after a run of eight Premier League games without winning. Leeds have climbed to a much-safer looking 15th place, having started in 18th place.

Aaronson was excellent, too. He hit the bar, and ran a mind-blowing 13.2 kilometres, the most a player in the Premier League has run in a single game this season. He took to Instagram after the match, after his breathtaking performance.

What a display from Aaronson. He was one of a number of Leeds players that performed superbly. Liam Cooper and Robin Koch at centre-back, Rasmus Kristensen was excellent having returned to the side in place of Luke Ayling.

Illan Meslier made an incredible nine saves, as much as any goalkeeper has done in the Premier League this season. But quite honestly, Leeds could have scored more goals than they actually did. But still, a wonderful 2-1 Leeds win.

Summerville got the plaudits for his goal but he was still full of praise for Aaronson on Instagram. The American got plenty of other praise from Leeds teammates too, but it was Summerville that compared him to Messi.

Of course, Aaronson is nicknamed the Medford Messi, having been born in the American City within New Jersey.
