Crysencio Summerville and Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott are among the players to wish Leeds United’s Pascal Struijk a speedy recovery from injury.
Struijk posted an update on his Instagram last night after undergoing surgery on a hernia, which, of course, has ruled him out of this afternoon’s match with Plymouth Argyle.
Daniel Farke confirmed in his press conference on Thursday that the 24-year-old has been playing at 80% fitness over the last few weeks, joking that he has been better than when at 100% last season.
But at the same time, Struijk went in for surgery after last week’s win at Leicester City in order to give him as much time to recover as possible, with the international break set for after today’s game.
That way, Struijk will hopefully miss only two or three matches at the very most, ensuring he is 100% ready for the busy Christmas period which is just around the corner.
Summerville and Elliott send Struijk message
Struijk wrote on his Instagram that this injury has now ‘been bothering him for a while’, but pushed back the surgery so he could play a part in key matches such as Leicester.
He said: “See you soon. The past weeks I gave my all despite an injury that has been bothering me for a while. I decided to wait as long as possible to undergo surgery, to contribute as much as I could these recent games.
“In the coming period I will be working hard to be back as soon as possible.”
Up until today, Struijk had played every minute of every game in the Championship this season, but it was definitely a sensible decision to go for surgery now.
He has performed at an incredible level over the last few weeks to say he was not fully fit, and his ability in possession will be a big miss for however long he is out.
Hopefully the international break will mean that he is back fully fit for Leeds’ trip to Rotherham United, which is the first game back upon the resumption of the season.
