Coventry City have now made an approach to sign Charlie Cresswell from Leeds United on a permanent deal, according to a report from The Sun on Sunday (29/1; page 59).
Cresswell appears to be one player who may seal a move away from Elland Road in the final days of the January transfer window. He is currently on loan at Millwall, but is having a difficult time.
He has made one appearance in their last six Championship games. And that came with a very late cameo against Cardiff City at the weekend.
Coventry make approach for Cresswell
Previously, it looked inevitable that Cresswell would be a first-team player with Leeds. In fact, some supporters will have backed the 20-year-old to be a future captain of the Whites.
However, it now seems possible that he could be on the move permanently before the deadline. The Yorkshire Evening Post reported that a sale could be on the cards.
And more recently, The Sun has suggested that Leeds would potentially accept £4 million for the youngster amid interest from Middlesbrough.
It certainly appears that teams are planning to test Leeds’ resolve to keep the defender. According to The Sun on Sunday (29/1; page 59), Coventry have now made an approach for Cresswell.
It would be a shame to see Cresswell leave Leeds in the coming days. He has had a difficult time at the Den. But he has a very bright future ahead.
Leeds may feel that the path to the first-team is just a little too congested to expect Cresswell to stay. But they will also be aware that a £4 million sale could really come back to haunt them in the future.
Jesse Marsch previously suggested that he has an ‘amazing‘ mentality.
So selling him would be a gamble.
