Georginio Rutter was announced as Leeds United’s club-record signing – but he will not be making his debut against Cardiff City on Wednesday in the FA Cup. So, could Leeds fans get their first sighting of Rutter on Monday night?

Rutter, 20, joined for a fee that is believed to cost an initial £24.8million – plus £10.7million in add-ons. He has signed a contract that will last until the summer of 2028. The France U21 star will wear the no.24 shirt at Elland Road, from now.

But Wednesday’s third-round FA Cup tie will see Rutter paraded at Elland Road, but not involved. FA Cup rules only allow Leeds to name players that were registered for the initial clash. A game in which Leeds drew 3-3 in Cardiff.

It means Rutter will have to watch from the sidelines, and his first chance to make a debut will come against Brentford this weekend. But, could Leeds fans get their first sniff of Rutter on Monday night – when Leeds’ 21’s are in action?

Leeds fans could get first sighting of Rutter on Monday night, with 21’s

Leeds are renowned for including first-team players that are coming back from injury, or younger players in the senior side in need of game time. Michael Skubala’s side play host to West Brom at York City’s LNER Community Stadium.

Skubala’s side are currently in the midst of a promotion battle. They sit in second place in an 11-team division – but level on points with leaders Southampton, boasting a game in hand. At the halfway stage, they need to keep winning.

The chances are that the likes of Joe Gelhardt, Sonny Perkins, Cody Drameh, Sam Greenwood, Darko Gyabi and Mateo Joseph will feature on Wednesday. But, with Rutter unavailable and still only 20, it means he could play on Monday.

If he was over 21 of course, he could also play – but would have to be one of the three over-aged players allowed to feature. Whether Leeds want to risk him or not, remains to be seen. But he could easily feature against the Baggies.
