Manchester City would now be happy to sell former Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

That is according to the Athletic, who report City now consider it a distinct possibility that he moves on from the Etihad before next Friday’s deadline.

City have been open to letting Phillips go throughout the entirety of the summer despite having only signed him from Leeds just over 12 months ago for around £42 million.

Phillips struggled with injuries during his early days as a City player and was never able to establish himself as a regular from then on, starting just two Premier League matches, both of which came after they were already crowned champions.

The 27-year-old has consistently reiterated during the window he wants to stay and fight for his place at City, but their latest transfer activity is a major indication Pep Guardiola does not see him as a major part of his plans.

City now see Phillips exit as real possibility

City are extremely keen on signing Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes and have already seen an offer knocked back for the 24-year-old.

Guardiola has also brought in Mateo Kovacic from Chelsea, who has moved straight ahead of Phillips in the pecking order for a place in midfield.

Phillips now has a major decision on his hands just over a year after leaving his boyhood club Leeds, with his place in the England squad also at risk if his lack of minutes continue.

According to talkSPORT, Liverpool are interested in a shock deal for the midfielder, while Bayern Munich have also been linked.

It is a real shame to see how Phillips’ City career has panned out and hopefully he makes the right decision before the end of the window.
