Clinton Morrison has told Sky Sports News on deadline day that Leeds United signing Weston McKennie on a loan-to-buy deal from Juventus is the best of the entire January window – with McKennie confirmed on Monday evening.
McKennie, 24, joins Leeds initially on loan with a view to making the deal permanent in a total package of £35m. He joins after two and a half years at Juventus in which he was a regular, clocking up 96 appearances in league and cup.
But now, McKennie joins a Premier League club that boasts one of his oldest friends in Tyler Adams. Working under another American in Jesse Marsch, the duo are expected to combine in the Leeds midfield. Brenden Aaronson, too.
The USA trio could now form a crucial partnership in our fight to avoid a relegation fight this season. McKennie’s addition has certainly been seen as a bit of coup – but one that suits our system, and Marsch’s intensity as Leeds boss.
Asked for the best signing of the January window, Morrison picked McKennie over the likes of record Enzo Fernandez, Jorginho, Pedro Porro, Mykhaylo Mudryk, Leandro Trossard and more. He thinks McKennie will really suit Marsch’s side.
“I’m thinking outside the box, I’m thinking Weston McKennie, he is outstanding. I saw him play at the World Cup, playing with his mate Tyler Adams, coming in from Juventus. I think he will be a good signing for Leeds,” Morrison said.

It is a real statement of intent. Leeds have had a brilliant window. They kept the likes of Jack Harrison who was linked with the exit door, allowed struggling Diego Llorente to go and solved three areas which required strengthening.
We needed a striker – club-record signing Georginio Rutter. The left of defence needed solving – in comes Max Wober. The form of Marc Roca and a lack of depth was needed in midfield and the club have got McKennie. An ideal window.
