Chris Sutton has questioned if Javi Gracia is an upgrade on Jesse Marsch while on BBC Radio 5 Live’s MNC – even though he admitted the American’s record towards the end of tenure was way below par, before being sacked.

Leeds currently sit in 16th but after three straight defeats, in which the Whites have conceded 13 goals in that time, and face a massive clash against Leicester at Elland Road on Tuesday. A must-win game for Gracia and the club.

Indeed, Gracia’s side sit 16th and a point above 17th-placed Leicester – who are above the relegation zone on goal difference. The woeful downturn in form at Leeds makes us the side in the worst form since the international break.

Sutton was discussing Leeds on the Monday Night Club and he discussed whether our current manager is any kind of improvement on Marsch. He feels that there isn’t much difference between the two, with Gracia under pressure.

“Jesse Marsch – I know his record wasn’t good towards the end. Is Javi Gracia really an upgrade? I’m not so sure it is. Leeds fixtures are really tough. The Leeds fans, come the summer, will be demanding the club have a re-think.”

Sutton has questioned if Gracia is an upgrade on Marsch at Leeds

To begin with, you would have said without doubt. Gracia had brought a calmness to Leeds when Marsch had insisted on chaos – and it worked. Three wins from his opening six games. But three straight losses is woeful.

At this time in the season, too. Yes, Gracia has had to play against Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea in his opening nine games. But, 10 points from nine League games is not enough and Leeds desperately need to beat Leicester.
