Chris Sutton has told BBC Radio 5 Live’s 606 on Sunday evening that he finds it “amazing” that Leeds United have not yet appointed a manager ahead of the 2023-24 season – just 42 days until we play against Cardiff on August 6.
Leeds and the 49ers are expected to make a decision this week. But there is some belief that the 49ers could wait to confirm their official takeover after the EFL have completed their checks – before then announcing a new gaffer.
However, interviews were held in London last week and have now been finished. The front runner remains to be in the name of Daniel Farke. Patrick Vieira and Scott Parker have also been named and spoken to, over the last week.
Sutton, though, was not in a forgiving mood when discussing the club’s managerial situation. He urged the 49ers to hurry up and make a decision – with the club beginning their push for an instant return to the top tier in just 42 days.
“Leeds United, I do find this amazing. They actually need a manager in right now, don’t they? The season is not far away. There is recruitment to do, a new manager will like certain players, won’t like others. Need to get a move on.”

It does seem ridiculous that Leeds are not yet with manager. A move that needs to happen, given the ability to work with the sporting director and start to target new signings – and pick which players can be allowed to leave Leeds.
Tyler Roberts has gone. Diego Llorente and Rasmus Kristensen look set for Roma. Marc Roca is on his way to Real Betis. Tyler Adams, Illan Meslier, Robin Koch, Willy Gnonto, Jack Harrison, Rodrigo and plenty more will also leave.
But Leeds can hardly go and replace them until they have a manager in place. That looks as though it will be Farke at this stage, but as we all know with Leeds, anything can happen. Until confirmation, it remains up in the air.
