Leeds United may have had some good news, with journalist Ben Jacobs suggesting on Twitter that Victor Orta is not under active consideration as Chelsea look to appoint a new sporting director.

Orta’s future has come under the microscope in recent weeks. The Telegraph reported last month that the Chelsea hierarchy had discussed the Spaniard as they consider potential candidates for the position.

Jesse Marsch subsequently discussed the links. The Leeds boss expressed his hope that Orta would remain at Elland Road – in comments reported by Leeds Live.

And it seems that it may perhaps be more than likely that Orta will stay.

Jacobs took to Twitter to suggest that Chelsea are looking at Stuart Webber for the role. And in a follow-up tweet, he mentioned that Orta is not being considered right now.

Obviously, Leeds fans may have mixed feelings about the prospect of Orta staying. He has divided opinion for much of his spell at Elland Road.

The fact that Chelsea have considered him highlights that he has had success at Leeds. No-one can deny that some of the work Orta has done has been absolutely outstanding.

We would not have had Marcelo Bielsa without Orta. And some of the signings he has made have been incredibly successful.

But there have also been plenty of mistakes along the way. And it is not entirely clear how many of this past summer’s signings are going to prove to be successful.

But there are absolutely no guarantees that Leeds would able to replace him with someone better if he did move on.

Ultimately, Orta has done a very good job so far. And there is clearly scope for Leeds to improve while he is at the helm.

But it would be wrong to pretend that there will not be a section of supporters unhappy to hear that he is not Chelsea-bound.
