Leeds United have confirmed that Alfie McCalmont has left the club on a permanent basis for the first time, to join Carlisle United after helping them gain promotion – and both Charlie Cresswell and Adam Forshaw have reacted.
McCalmont, 23, spent the second half of last season on loan at Carlisle. He helped them secure a place in the play-offs in League Two, before winning at Wembley. They have swooped to land McCalmont on a deal until June 2025.
It sees McCalmont leave Leeds for the first time on a permanent basis, after three previous loan exits. Oldham, Morecambe and then Carlisle. He leaves having only ever managed two senior appearances, under Marcelo Bielsa.
McCalmont, who joined Leeds as a seven-year-old, will now be tasked with helping Paul Simpson’s side remain in the third tier and avoid a relegation battle, at the very minimum. He posted on Instagram, with a message to Leeds.

McCalmont needed to leave Leeds. Even with the club relegated to the Championship, there was simply no chance that he was going to be involved. Forshaw looks set to remain even though he has not officially agreed new terms.
Leeds also boast Archie Gray and Darko Gyabi. Both younger than McCalmont but already operating at a higher level. They will certainly be involved, while Leeds are also likely to make a signing or two in the middle of the park.
Many Leeds players, past and present, responded to the news that McCalmont had left Leeds. Some of those to comment on his social media post include Forshaw and Charlie Cresswell – who played with him in the Under-21’s.
