Carlton Palmer has replied to a Sheffield Wednesday fan on Twitter as saying Leeds United will finish in the top two of the 2023-24 Championship table – telling the supporter he would take a £100 bet on Leeds gaining promotion.
Leeds have taken a step towards sorting out the multitude of issues this summer by finally appointing a manager in the form of Daniel Farke. The German, 46, has enjoyed success in the Championship, winning it twice with Norwich.
But there is still plenty to do. With just a month until the opener against Cardiff on August 6, the club are still waiting for EFL ratification for The 49ers’ takeover. A big turnover of players is also expected, with many expected to leave.
However, ex-Leeds and Wednesday man Palmer is confident Leeds will gain promotion. A Wednesday fan Tweeted Palmer as saying he would bet him £100, that Leeds fail to get promotion. Palmer said he would take that bet.

Realistically, Leeds and Leicester will be among the top sides when it comes to next season’s promotion race. The Whites, Leicester and Southampton will benefit from having parachute payments, 55% of a Premier League income.
So, they will have massive spending power compared to the other Championship sides. Whether we can use that to our advantage remains to be seen. But with a takeover incoming, and Leeds appointing Farke, things are looking up.
Now, it is about sorting out the playing staff. Many are expected to go. Robin Koch, Diego Llorente, Marc Roca and Rasmus Kristensen are close to an exit. Leeds need to get those players out and bring in replacements quickly.
