Leeds United confirmed the loan-to-buy signing of Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie on Monday evening and Brenden Aaronson has taken to Instagram on Tuesday morning to respond – posting a four-word verdict on his story.
McKennie, 24, joins Leeds despite remaining a regular at Juventus. He has played 96 times for the Old Lady since joining the Serie A giants in the summer of 2020, initially on loan from Schalke. But Juventus are going down hill.
Rumbles upstairs has led to Juve being handed a 15-point deduction. Champions League qualification, or any chance of qualifying for Europe after the deduction looks unlikely. The club is in a bad way and McKennie has chosen to leave.
Indeed, Leeds have moved. After links with the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, Villa and Bournemouth earlier this month, Leeds have decided to bring him to Elland Road. It is believed to have cost Leeds £1m up front, and an option of £35m.
The move sees McKennie increase the American contingent at Elland Road. He joins childhood friend Tyler Adams at Leeds, with the duo likely to combine in midfield. Aaronson is a USMNT teammate. Jesse Marsch is of course, the boss.
Leeds confirm McKennie signing: Aaronson responds on Instagram
McKennie is a real coup for Leeds. A player with more than 40 caps at National Team level, and with Champions League experience under his belt. The feeling is that Leeds will sanction the permanent clause, unless something big happens.
With Marc Roca’s form up and down, Adam Forshaw injured more time than he is not and Darko Gyabi still a rookie, Leeds needed strengthening in midfield. McKennie certainly does that. He could start Sunday, at Nottingham Forest.
Aaronson, McKennie’s USMNT teammate – a player he played alongside in Qatar at the World Cup – took to Instagram. He posted a four-word verdict on Leeds bringing McKennie to Elland Road: “Love to see it”.
