Brad Friedel and Paul Robinson have warned England that Leeds United duo Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams have a real chance of causing an upset with the US National Team at the World Cup – on Tottenham’s official website.

Aaronson and Adams are two of just three Leeds players – as well as Dan James, who is on loan at Fulham – that will represent Leeds at the World Cup. A potential boost for Jesse Marsch, allowing the majority of his players to rest.

But Aaronson and Adams – along with Denmark’s Rasmus Kristensen – are expected to feature regularly for their countries. Adams and Aaronson will feel they have the chance to qualify for the knockout rounds of the World Cup.

England are strong favourites to win the group, but USA are probably best-equipped to finish second. Friedel and ex-Leeds goalkeeper Robinson gave their verdict on whether the Leeds duo could upset England at the World Cup.

Robinson said: “The USA have got Brenden Aaronson, Tyler Adams at Leeds, Christian Pulisic, Weston McKennie and a number of good players who will once again want to prove a point against England and on the world stage.”

Friedel added: “Weston McKennie is a phenomenally gifted player, really good. He’s our best player. When he plays with Tyler Adams, and if Yunus Musah and Christian Pulisic is fit, plus Brenden Aaronson’s form at Leeds, solid team.”

Friedel and Robinson warn England, Leeds duo could cause upset

The US do have some serious players and on their day. With the support of their country, they will turn up. But a lot will be to do with how Gregg Berhalter sets his side out. Will he look to stifle England, or try to win the game.

The energy in this US side will be a concern for England. Adams, Aaronson, McKennie and a whole host of other US players are renowned for their stamina. In the Qatari heat, it will be a tough ask for England’s players to stop them.

But of course, England have the quality and the strength in depth to be able to beat the United States. However, Adams especially, will be tasked with nullifying England’s incredible attack. Can they cause an upset? Without a doubt.
