David Prutton has written in his Yorkshire Evening Post column that Georginio Rutter‘s application has been “fantastic” – claiming he could easily have decided to leave the club, amid Dortmund interest.
Rutter, 21, has starred for Leeds since the start of the Championship campaign. But it comes after a difficult start to life at Elland Road, struggling for the first six months – starting just two of 13 games.
Only once, in the Premier League – the 1-0 loss away at Chelsea under Javi Gracia. This season, he has had a hand in four goals in his seven Championship games. He will surely start against Southampton.
He is playing with a smile on his face but it could have been very different. Not many would have placed blame on the Frenchman if he left – Dortmund made a £25m bid (Sky Sports). Prutton had his say.

“Georginio Rutter was a real handful last weekend. Quite an imposing figure. I was speaking to a journo mate of mine that interviewed him. He said it was a really lovely, down to earth and good interview.
“It’s all about what he does on the pitch. Any big transfer or young player coming to a different country trying to assert himself is going to find it tough. The way he has applied himself has been fantastic.
“There weren’t too many sniffs, thinking ‘get me out of here’. He’s done it off the back of his own hard work and the input of the players around him, which I think is the perfect combination for the manager.”

Prutton says Rutter application has been fantastic at Leeds
He has been excellent this season but Prutton is right, he could easily have followed in the same path as Willy Gnonto – requesting to leave the club. But his attitude has been fantastic under boss Daniel Farke.
Rutter is a superb player with enormous potential and will go on to have a future in the Premier League, or the top tier of one of Europe’s biggest countries. But right now, we are lucky to have him with us.
