Rodrigo Moreno has heaped praise on Leeds teammate and fellow Spaniard Marc Roca as “the best in the world” after his sparkling performance against Liverpool. Leeds ended a winless run of eight games, with a shock 2-1 victory.
Partnered by Tyler Adams again after the American midfielder missed the 3-2 loss to Fulham, Roca looked back to his best. While it is hard to criticise any Leeds players from the stunning win, Roca was certainly one of the best.
Roca was everywhere. WhoScored prove as much in terms of his stats; one key pass, two tackles, two interceptions, two clearances, three crosses and plenty of passes. On many occasions, he sprung Leeds into a counter attack at Anfield.
The pressure was on the players and Jesse Marsch. A loss to Liverpool would not have been so bad normally, but having lost the last four and without a win in two months – the pressure was on. £10m Roca posted on Instagram.
Rodrigo: Leeds teammate Roca best in the world after Liverpool display
There is no doubt that when Leeds are at their strongest, Roca is pivotal to the way Leeds play. Adams is crucial in terms of breaking play up and giving Leeds possession, but Roca is the one that adds identity to the Marsch system.
He creates, he dictates the tempo, he hands ammunition to Brenden Aaronson and his fellow attackers. It will be interesting to see how Leeds start against Bournemouth – the Liverpool win giving Marsch some selection headaches.
Will Summerville start if Luis Sinisterra is back? Does Rasmus Kristensen – who was excellent – continue over Luke Ayling? Patrick Bamford or Rodrigo? But if anyone is sure to start, it is Roca and Adams in the middle of the park.
Responding to Roca’s Instagram, Rodrigo branded the ex-Bayern Munich man as “the best in the world”.
