Ben Parker responds when asked if Leeds star Willy Gnonto needs to apologise to supporters

Willy Gnonto is back in Leeds United training after refusing to play the last three games – but Ben Parker has told LS11 he does not need to issue an apology. Scoring goals is apology enough, Parker believes.

The winger is now back in training after missing the last three games against Shrewsbury, Birmingham and West Brom. He even issued a transfer request hours before the game on Friday, which ended 1-1.

So, Gnonto could be in the squad that travels to Portman Road on Saturday afternoon. Ipswich sit top of the Championship table and having Gnonto available would be a massive boost for Daniel Farke’s side.

But, fans are angry. Some still want him gone, many feel disrespected by the ex-Inter and Zurich star. Ex-Leeds defender Parker, though, does not feel he needs to say sorry, but needs to do so on the pitch.

“Do we need an apology? I don’t know,” Parker told LS11 this week, when asked about him. “An apology for me would be stepping on the pitch, taking the abuse from the fans because that is going to be there.

“But as a fan – give 100%, score goals. That is the biggest apology you can give. Farke has a history of dealing with this, he reintegrated Cantwell and Buendia back in and they won promotion,” Parker added.

Ben Parker: Willy Gnonto does not need to issue Leeds apology

I think many Leeds fans will disagree with Parker’s comments. Many will feel that Gnonto has gone way too far, his behaviour, attitude has been detestable. His actions are some of the worst a player can do.

He should apologise. Whether that be in the form of something on his social media channels, to media before or after the game on Saturday – or in another way. Scoring goals might not be enough right now.
