Ben Parker has told LS11 that players only think about themselves when discussing Max Wober and his surprise move from Leeds United to Gladbach on loan – with Wober explaining he left because of next summer’s Euro 2024.
Wober, 25, has left the club to join Gladbach on loan until the end of the season – though it is believed there is no option in the deal. However, it is unlikely that Wober ever pulls on a Leeds shirt again, given the backlash from fans.
Many expected Wober to remain. Reports emanated from Elland Road suggesting he would stay. Many hoped he would stay, given his performances having joined the club in January from Salzburg. But he has also left the club.
Ex-Leeds defender Parker has given his verdict on Wober’s exit – and the reasoning in which the defender gave for the departure. He said he has left in order to play at the highest level and win a place in Austria’s Euro 2024 squad.
“Players have decisions to make. Rightly or wrongly, they think of themselves. I want to focus on the players we’ve got – if you want to go, go. Instead of worrying about people who aren’t here, let’s worry about those who are here.”

It did come as a surprise but actually, it is not the end of the world. Leeds have left-footed centre-back cover, in the form of Liam Cooper and Pascal Struijk. Cooper has interest from Saudi Arabia. Struijk, from Belgian side Brugge.
Keeping them is now of utmost importance – but when there was three options, losing one was not the end of the world. Wober was always the most-likely to leave, with Cooper and Struijk actually saying they are happy to stay.
