BBC pundit says 22-year-old Leeds player produced one of his worst ever performances last night

It is difficult to pick out one single good performance in a Leeds United shirt from last night’s game.

The Whites were humiliated 4-0 by Queens Park Rangers in the capital in what was a such a huge opportunity to apply some pressure on Ipswich Town ahead of their games in hand.

With Leeds now just one point above Ipswich having played two matches more, their hopes of automatic promotion have taken a huge dent, and big favours will be required elsewhere.

You could argue only Junior Firpo came out of last night with any real credit. He put in two excellent crosses down the left which were begging to be tapped home, though even then, that is a stretch.

Someone like Joel Piroe, meanwhile, produced one of the worst individual displays seen in a Leeds shirt for a long time, but it is impossible to single out just one player.

Last night’s embarrassment is even more puzzling when you consider Monday night’s hard-fought 4-3 win at Middlesbrough should’ve been the confidence boost they needed.

All of Leeds’ front four contributed massively at the Riverside. Crysencio Summerville scored twice and provided an assist, while Willy Gnonto and Patrick Bamford also bagged. Georginio Rutter won the penalty for the equaliser.

Though Bamford was injured and replaced by Piroe, Leeds’ front four looked like they had never even played together on Friday. They couldn’t link up and were easily dealt with by QPR.

Summerville has been the Championship’s stand-out player this season, scoring 19 goals, registering nine assists and winning the division’s POTS.

The 22-year-old looked a shadow of himself yesterday, though, with pundit Jon Newsome telling BBC Radio Leeds post-match it was the ‘worst’ he’s seen him in a long time.

He said: “I think it is the worst performance I have seen from Summerville in a long time and it is one I really fancied him to do well in. Playing against Jimmy Dunne, big 6ft, thick set, he is not the most mobile, he is not going to move his body, but tell you what, he has won that battle, he really has.”

Leeds need others to step up when Summerville off it

Summerville is quite clearly Leeds’ dangerman in the eyes of most opposition sides, and so it has not been uncommon for him to be doubled up on.

With that in mind, when he cannot show his best form, others must step up. Gnonto has recently, but was poor last night. As was Rutter.

Leeds spent a significant amount of money to bring Piroe to the club and yet his lack of ability sticks out like a sore thumb even when the rest of the attack is not firing.

Farke said recently Leeds have become over reliant on Summerville but that is more of an indictment of him that he cannot find ways to overcome that.
