Leigh Bromby has issued his verdict on the performance of Archie Gray as Leeds United drew with Coventry City on Saturday.
Archie Gray kept his place on the right of the defence against the Sky Blues. The 17-year-old had a tough time in midweek up against one of the best wingers in the Championship in Jack Clarke.
But Gray ultimately held his own at the Stadium of Light. And with Daniel Farke forced to use Djed Spence on the left once again, Gray remained at full-back.
Leigh Bromby lauds Archie Gray after Leeds draw
Gray will perhaps feel that he should have done better for Coventry’s equaliser. However, none of the backline covered themselves in glory in that moment.

And actually, Leigh Bromby told BBC Radio Leeds (broadcast on 16/12; 17:45) that he thought that Gray was really impressive over the course of the game.
“I think he’s outstanding,” he said. “He’s a top talent. He’s not put a foot wrong today so can you blame the goal on him? I’m not sure, I don’t think Struijk’s body shape was right. There was no pressure on the ball. So if you look at the details, Spence’s defending’s really poor for it. Archie’s in actually a good position. So can’t put it down to him playing right-back.”
Remarkable how reliable Whites teenager has become
Obviously, in an ideal world, Farke would be able to move Gray away from the right-back position. Spence was seemingly signed in the summer to fill that void. And there have been some positive signs in the early stages of his Leeds career.
But with left-back – once again – proving to be problematic, Spence is yet to be used on the right. So Gray is probably going to keep featuring in that role for the time-being.
And you have to say that he has still been a revelation in that position. Gray has been unbelievable at times for Leeds. It is remarkable to think that he had not made his first-team debut before the campaign began.
And you can guarantee that he is going to put in a real shift in the massive upcoming clash with Ipswich at Elland Road.
