Ross McCormack has suggested that the performance from Willy Gnonto after he came off the bench for Leeds United in their win over Huddersfield Town was not a display that you would expect from the forward.
McCormack was speaking to BBC Radio Leeds after Leeds claimed a 4-1 victory, in which Daniel Farke’s side did all the damage during the first-half at Elland Road.
It has been a quiet start to the campaign for Willy Gnonto. Of course, the early part of the season was disrupted by Gnonto not wanting to play due to transfer speculation.
More recently, he has been sidelined with injury. But he has been back for the last three Championship fixtures. Unfortunately, the Italy international is still awaiting his first goal since August.

Gnonto came on for the final half-hour against Huddersfield. But he was unable to make a major impact on the contest. And Ross McCormack suggested that it is not entirely surprising given that he has not had consistent minutes yet.
“Yeah he’s probably one of them sort of players that probably needs to play to get into a rhythm. He’s not really had that, has he. Not struggled today, but just not what you expect of Willy Gnonto,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.
Forward’s time to shine will surely come
Gnonto’s form can be looked at in a couple of ways. Obviously, it is disappointing that he is not tearing the division up as he should be.
But that means that Daniel Farke still has another star player to turn to at some stage. Right now, Leeds have the depth in attack to blow teams away. And that is without Gnonto finding his best form.
It is obviously a long season. So there may well be a time when Crysencio Summerville or Georginio Rutter go off the boil. At that stage, Gnonto is going to be needed to step up.
He definitely has the quality to do exactly that. But breaking into the side on a consistent basis is clearly not an easy task right now.
