Neil Redfearn has admitted that he was left gutted for Joe Rodon after the Tottenham Hotspur loanee was sent off in Leeds United’s draw with Hull on Wednesday.
Redfearn was speaking to BBC Radio Leeds after the stalemate which saw the Whites keep their third clean sheet in a row.
Leeds were made to ride their luck late on, thanks to one of the misses of the season. And the turning point in the game certainly seemed to come after Joe Rodon was sent off for a second yellow card.
While there appeared to be no doubt about the second caution, the first seemed extremely unfair. And Rodon is now suspended for this weekend’s clash with Watford.
Redfearn praises Rodon despite Leeds loanee’s red card
It is a big blow for Leeds. The Spurs loanee has formed a really good partnership with Pascal Struijk at the heart of the Whites’ defence.
And Redfearn suggested that he had been really impressed by both players during the draw with Hull.
“I thought the two centre-backs were brilliant. I’m gutted that Rodon’s got the red,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.
“And that just breaks up a really good partnership for a game. I know it’s only a game, but again, you want momentum. Struijk was excellent again, Rodon was excellent.”
Rodon has, so far, proved to be a really decent signing for Leeds. And it says a lot about his quality that he already appears to have formed a really good partnership with Struijk.
The good news for Leeds is that Liam Cooper is now back from injury. And you would imagine that he will start with Struijk at the weekend.
It will be interesting to see what happens when Rodon is back available. Cooper is the captain. And he did well after coming on to see out the game against Hull.
But Rodon has showed his Premier League quality. So there will be plenty of Leeds fans hoping that the Welshman makes an immediate return to the team after he has served his suspension.
