Adam Forshaw has been praised for his cameo in Leeds United’s humiliating loss to Bournemouth on Sunday, with Jon Newsome insisting that he must now start our game against Manchester City next weekend.
Newsome was speaking to BBC Radio Leeds after the embarrassing result against the Cherries. You will struggle to find a single Leeds fan who believes that Javi Gracia’s side are going to stay in the Premier League this season.
There were some disgusting displays all over the pitch. Some may perhaps – hopefully – never play for Leeds again. And certainly, there is a midfielder who probably needs to be left on the sidelines until the summer.
Forshaw praised after embarrassing Leeds loss
The performance led to Adam Forshaw coming on with 20 minutes remaining. And the 31-year-old went on to look to be on another level to many of those around him.
It is an embarrassment that Forshaw was potentially one of the only positives amidst another season which has been decimated by injury.
But Newsome did praise the former Middlesbrough man and suggested that he would be baffled if he did not start against Manchester City.
“We looked a mile off it. I thought Adam Forshaw came on and did well. How he doesn’t start next Saturday will be beyond me,” he told BBC Radio Leeds.
Where do Whites go from here?
What is terrifying is that Javi Gracia does not have many more options. The number of players who looked up for the fight could probably be counted on one hand.
Manchester City, Newcastle, West Ham and Tottenham lie ahead. On current evidence, Leeds will be fortunate to take one more point this season.
Gracia has got an awful lot wrong since arriving earlier this season. In truth, we are beyond the point where there even needs to be a conversation over whether he should stay much longer.
The least he can do is pick a team the fans can actually care about. And Forshaw is one of those who seems to be willing to fight.
At this stage, that seems to be all the fans can hope for.
