While Leeds United picked up their first league win of the season with a 4-3 win over Ipswich, it was not a good day for on-loan quartet Brenden Aaronson, Diego Llorente, Max Wober and Rasmus Kristensen.
Joel Piroe scored on his debut, Willy Gnonto and Luis Sinisterra on their returns to the Leeds side and record signing Georginio Rutter got his first. A gorgeous solo effort to get ourselves on the score sheet.
A huge win for Daniel Farke’s men. A win that comes against a team that sat in first place going into the weekend, away from home. But for four players out on loan from Leeds, it was a poor Saturday’s work.
Robin Koch (Frankfurt) and Marc Roca (Betis) were not in action today – and arguably, they have enjoyed the best starts to life away from Leeds of the seven first-team players that have left on loan this summer.
Jack Harrison (Everton) remains injured and is yet to make his debut – but goodness, do they need him fit to play. On Saturday, Aaronson (Union), Kristensen and Llorente (Roma) and Wober were in action.

So, it started with Aaronson. Union won 4-1, but they did not have Aaronson to thank – in fact, the USA man had his teammates to thank. Sent off after a second yellow on 21 minutes, kicking the ball away.
Then, Gladbach hosted Leverkusen. Wober saw out the entire 90 minutes, but they suffered a 3-0 home defeat. Last and possibly least, Llorente and Kristensen started for Roma as they travelled to Verona.
But both Leeds loanees were hooked at half-time, as Verona saw Roma’s poor start to 2023-24 worsen. A 2-1 loss for Roma, with Kristensen and Llorente doing little to show Roma fans why they were signed.
