Last night was all about the result. It was all about Daniel Farke’s big players stepping up and providing the necessary quality, precision and finesse in Leeds’ final third to get the job done – and, they did.
Patrick Bamford and Willy Gnonto got their names on the score sheet, while Crysencio Summerville took his tally to a whopping 30 goals involvements for the 2023-24 campaign. Two goals, and another assist.
The 22-year-old Dutch winger is attracting interest from some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs and it is hardly a surprise. His penalty, under pressure, well-taken. His second and our fourth, superbly clinical.
Summerville now has 20 goals and 10 assists this season in what is really, his first full season in which the Leeds no.10 is first choice. Even last term, he was only a fringe player under the guidance of Jesse Marsch.
Stewart Downing raves about Leeds star Crysencio Summerville
But this season he has become the main man. Winning the Championship’s Player of the Season award, Summerville took the game by the scruff of the neck on Monday, on Teesside – involved in everything.
Meanwhile, Stewart Downing has joined Leeds as an assistant manager for the U21 side and he was on punditry duty – as his current employers took on a side where he is considered pretty iconic, in Boro.

He spoke of Summerville after the match, telling Sky Sports (22/04, 10.17PM) that he has returned to his best form judging by his display at Boro. Downing was also impressed with striker Bamford, after his goal.
“The important thing is their big players were good. Summerville, back on form, Bamford getting a goal. That’s what you need. Big players get you over the line. Some of his play, his goal, finishing was top class.”
Downing is right, Summerville had been in and out of form
In the previous 11 Championshiop games, Summerville had failed to lay on an assist and only scored two goals. At this point in the season as Downing says, you need your big players to turn up. He did last night.
But, he has made Leeds wait to get back to his first-half of the season form. In the final two games of the season, Leeds need Summerville at his precise best – which he was in the North East last night for us.
QPR are likely to play with a lower block on Friday night and a player like Summerville will be relied upon to produce the magic that gets the win. Against Southampton, he will have the space to shine. Big games.
