Luke Ayling and Mateusz Klich were amongst those to send messages to Leif Davis on Instagram after the left-back helped Ipswich Town seal promotion to the Championship on Saturday – less than a year after his departure from Leeds United.
It has been a very good season for Leif Davis. There was a little surprise when he was given the green light to leave Elland Road having featured in Jesse Marsch’s pre-season plans.

Davis had been coming in off the back of an underwhelming loan spell with Bournemouth. However, Leeds continue to struggle for depth at left-back. Pascal Struijk has spent a large part of the campaign in that role.
Ayling and Klich laud Leif Davis as Ipswich seal promotion
Obviously, Davis has been playing at a lower level. But there is no doubt that he is doing his best to make Leeds rue their decision to let him go.

The 23-year-old has scored three times for the Tractor Boys. But it is the number of assists he has provided which is particularly staggering.
Davis has set up 14 goals in League One this term. No player in that division has managed more. In fact, the only player in any of the top three divisions to better that tally is a chap called Kevin De Bruyne.
And their 6-0 win over Exeter on Saturday saw Ipswich seal automatic-promotion back to the Championship.
Davis has since taken to Instagram to express his delight at the achievement. And amongst those to reply was Luke Ayling and Mateusz Klich…

In fairness, Junior Firpo has had a much better spell in the team this year. And obviously, it is impossible to say whether Davis would come close to replicating that form in the Premier League.
But he did seem to be someone who did reasonably well whenever he got a chance for Leeds.
So you would not be surprised to see him thrive in the Championship next year.
