Italian outlet Sport Mediaset claim Aston Villa have spoken to the agent of Leeds United star Willy Gnonto and are set to open talks with Leeds in the ‘next few days’ – but will need to outbid Everton, who have tabled a £20.6m fee.
Gnonto, 19, is expected to return to Elland Road today after being given extended leave away from Leeds. It comes after representing Italy’s U21 side at the European Championships – and playing for the senior Italy side beforehand.

Plenty of Serie A clubs have been linked with Gnonto since the club were relegated from the Premier League. But it seems that Leeds’ asking price is likely to price Italian clubs out of a move. The money is in the top tier of England.
The report states that Everton have made an offer worth an initial £15.45m, plus £5.15m in add-ons. A five-year deal is on the table from Everton for Gnonto. But, Villa are set to open talks with Leeds – having spoken to his agents.
Villa to open Gnonto talks with Leeds in next few days, after Everton offer
Leeds cannot sell Gnonto to Everton and surely, Gnonto would prefer to join a side that will be looking up the table next season – and not behind their shoulder. Everton may slip into a third-successive relegation battle next term.

Surely, the Italy ace needs stability. To join a Premier League side where he can play regularly. A move to Villa would be perfect for Gnonto. Especially, because if he struggles to start – he will certainly play in the Conference League.
Leeds would prefer to sell to Villa given the fan reaction if Gnonto joins Everton, and surely, Gnonto would prefer to go to Villa – if he does end up leaving. So, all eyes are on Villa and whether they enter talks for the winger this week.
