CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs has told Give Me Sport that Leeds United are likely to be in the market for Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer – with Unai Emery’s side putting the U21 European Championship winner up for sale.
Archer, 21, was on the bench for Aston Villa on Saturday evening as Emery’s side were trounced 5-1 by Newcastle United on Tyneside. To date, the England U21 man has only managed 13 senior outings for Villa despite his form.
Indeed, his loan spells at Preston – in which he scored seven goals in 20 – and then Middlesbrough last season – another 11 goals in 23 – has seen him catch the eye. But Villa have decided to put him up for sale, and a sale is likely.

Jacobs claims that movement is likely with Archer and states that Middlesbrough and Michael Carrick would like him back on Tyneside. But they are not alone. Jacobs also reports that Leeds are in the running to sign the striker.
“With Archer, what’s interesting is he’s been made for sale now. So there is an opportunity to do that deal. Aston Villa are willing to let him go. So that can be one to watch because Aston Villa are now prepared to sell him.
“Leeds are one of the clubs no doubt Middlesbrough are another. So I would expect movement on Archer between now and the end of the window,” Jacobs said during an interview with Give Me Sport, discussing Archer’s future.

Leeds just need new signings. With Jack Harrison, Willy Gnonto, Luis Sinisterra and Tyler Adams likely to leave at this stage, we need to really get a move on. Looking at Saturday’s bench was enough to know we need signings.
Up front is crucial and Archer would be a wonderful addition. Young, available for transfer, proven in the second tier and one that is only going to get better when he finds a new, permanent home. He is likely to be expensive, though.
